3 Colors You Should Never Wear to a Funeral

  • by

When attending a funeral, clothing is usually chosen to show respect for the person who has passed away and support for their loved ones. While there is no universal rule that completely bans particular colors, some choices can appear too casual, festive, or attention-grabbing depending on the family’s traditions and the type of service.

Bright red is often avoided because it is a highly noticeable color and can look celebratory or dramatic in a setting where subdued clothing is generally preferred.

Neon or fluorescent colors—such as bright yellow, lime green, or fluorescent pink—can draw considerable attention. Unless the family has specifically requested colorful clothing, muted alternatives are usually more appropriate.

Very bright or flashy patterns and metallic colors can also be unsuitable. Sequins, glitter, highly reflective fabrics, and loud multicolored prints may make the outfit stand out when the focus should remain on honoring the deceased.
