Traditional Herbal Digestive Tea: Ingredients, Recipe & What Science Says

Many traditional herbal blends are shared as “intestinal cleanses” or “detox” drinks. While herbs can be part of a healthy lifestyle, there is no scientific evidence that they flush toxins from the intestines or remove years of waste from the colon. Your digestive system naturally eliminates waste through regular bowel movements.

The herbs shown in the image may support hydration and digestion, but they should not be viewed as a cure or detox.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon dried rosebuds
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon food-grade gum arabic crystals
  • 1 tablespoon dried purple rose petals (optional if using rosebuds)
  • 4–5 dried sage leaves
  • 4 cups (1 liter) water
