- Top each with another slice of bread and gently press together.
Step 2: Prepare the Egg Mixture
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together:
- Eggs
- Milk
- Vanilla extract
- Cinnamon
- Sugar (if using)
- Pinch of salt
- Whisk until completely smooth.
Step 3: Coat the Sandwiches
- Dip one sandwich into the egg mixture.
- Let each side soak for about 8–10 seconds.
- Flip and coat the other side.
- Allow excess mixture to drip off.
Don’t soak too long or the bread may become too soft.
Step 4: Cook the French Toast
- Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Add 1 tablespoon butter and let it melt.
- Place the sandwiches in the pan.
- Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Add more butter if needed before cooking the remaining sandwiches.
Step 5: Serve
- Transfer to serving plates.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar.
- Slice diagonally to reveal the gooey Nutella center.
- Serve warm with maple syrup and fresh berries.

- Use day-old or slightly stale bread for the best texture.
- Brioche or Texas toast makes the richest French toast.
- Cook over medium heat so the inside cooks without burning the outside.
- Add sliced bananas or strawberries inside the sandwich before cooking for an extra treat.
- Serve immediately while the Nutella is warm and melted.
