Oregano Tea: Health Benefits, Recipe & What It Can (and Can’t) Do

Social media posts often claim that “just one oregano leaf a day” can prevent or cure numerous diseases. While oregano is a flavorful herb with beneficial plant compounds, there is no scientific evidence that eating one oregano leaf each day can prevent or cure serious illnesses.

Oregano can be part of a healthy diet, but it should not replace medical treatment.

What Is Oregano?

Oregano is an aromatic herb commonly used in Mediterranean cooking. It contains natural compounds such as:

  • Carvacrol
  • Thymol
  • Rosmarinic acid
  • Flavonoids
  • Antioxidants

These compounds have shown antioxidant and antimicrobial activity in laboratory studies, but this does not mean oregano cures diseases in humans.
