“Not sure I nailed the colors. Open to kind, constructive feedback—if it’s not your style, that’s totally okay!”
That was the thought running through my mind when I finally finished this quilt.
I had spent countless hours choosing fabrics, cutting squares, arranging patterns, sewing seams, and rearranging pieces until I thought I had finally found the right combination.
Patchwork quilting is funny that way. You can have dozens of beautiful fabrics sitting in front of you, but putting them all together is a completely different challenge.
Step 1: Choosing the Fabrics
I started with a collection of colorful cotton fabrics.
There were florals, paisleys, tiny prints, larger patterns, bright colors, soft colors, and everything in between.
Rather than choosing fabrics that all matched perfectly, I wanted the quilt to feel collected over time—as if every square had its own little story.
I chose a mixture of:
- Floral cotton
- Paisley prints
- Small geometric patterns
- Bright solid colors
- Vintage-inspired fabrics
- Blue, green, yellow, pink, red, and purple prints
The goal was to create something cheerful and warm rather than perfectly coordinated.
