Ingredients
For the Potatoes
- 5 medium potatoes
- Water for boiling
- 1 tsp salt
For the Meatballs
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika

- 2 cups tomato sauce

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Boil the Potatoes
- Peel the potatoes and place them in a large pot.
- Cover with salted water and boil until just fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.
- Drain and let cool slightly.
- Slice the potatoes into medium rounds.
Step 2: Prepare the Meatballs
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning.
- Mix until well combined.
- Shape into small meatballs.
Step 3: Cook the Meatballs
- Heat a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the meatballs until browned on all sides.
- They do not need to be fully cooked yet since they will finish in the oven.
Step 4: Make the Sauce
- In the same skillet, add olive oil and tomato sauce.
- Stir in tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
Step 5: Assemble the Dish
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish lightly.
- Arrange potato slices across the bottom.
- Place meatballs evenly over the potatoes.
- Pour the tomato sauce over everything.
- Sprinkle generously with mozzarella cheese.

- Bake for 20–25 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
