How to Help Keep Blue Jeans Looking New

1. Turn your jeans inside out before washing to protect the outer color.
2. Wash them in cold water using a gentle laundry detergent.
3. If you like, add ½ cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle occasionally to help remove detergent residue and keep the fabric feeling fresh.
4. Wash blue jeans only with other dark-colored clothing.
5. Avoid using too much detergent, as excess residue can dull the fabric over time.
6. Skip the tumble dryer when possible. Hang your jeans to air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight.
7. Don’t wash your jeans after every wear unless they’re dirty. Washing less often helps the color last longer.

Extra tip: If your jeans are brand new, you can soak them in cold water with ½ cup of salt for a few hours before the first wash. This is a traditional home remedy some people use to help set the dye, although results can vary.
