My husband shoved my face into our daughter’s birthday cake in front of 47 guests—but he had no idea I was the missing billionaire heiress who would soon change his life forever

PART 2 — THE RING

Maya sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the silver ring.

For eighteen years, she had believed her mother had simply abandoned her.

That was the story she’d been told.

Her mother had disappeared when Maya was a teenager, leaving behind only a small box containing a few photographs, a handwritten note, and the strange silver ring.

Maya had never understood why her mother had insisted she keep it.

Until that night.

She turned the ring over.

On the inside was a tiny inscription.

S.S.

Sterling.

Her heart stopped.

She remembered something her mother had once said.

“If you ever need to know who you really are, find the Sterling family.”

Maya had always thought it was nonsense.

Now she wasn’t so sure.

A knock came at the door.

Maya froze.

“Who is it?”

A man’s voice answered.

“I’m sorry to bother you. My name is Thomas Reed. I work for Julian Sterling.”

Maya’s blood ran cold.

She opened the door only a few inches.

Thomas looked at the ring around her neck.

His expression changed immediately.

“Where did you get that?”

“My mother.”

“What’s her name?”

Maya hesitated.

“Evelyn.”

Thomas stared at her.

Then he slowly stepped backward.

“Oh my God.”

“What?”

He pulled out his phone.

“I need to call Mr. Sterling.”

PART 3 — THE SECRET

Twenty minutes later, Julian Sterling stood inside the small bedroom.

The billionaire who had walked into Richard’s birthday party looked completely different now.

He wasn’t angry.

He was stunned.

He stared at Maya as though he were looking at a ghost.

“What’s your mother’s full name?”

“Evelyn Sterling.”

Julian’s face went pale.

“My sister.”

Maya stopped breathing.

“What?”

Julian sat down.

“My younger sister disappeared twenty-six years ago.”

Maya shook her head.

“No. My mother wasn’t a billionaire.”

Julian gave a sad smile.

“She was the heir to the Sterling family fortune.”

Maya’s knees nearly gave out.

“My mother told me she left because she wanted a normal life.”

“She did.”

Julian looked at the ring.

“But she didn’t leave because she wanted to.”

He explained everything.

Evelyn had fallen in love with a man her family considered unsuitable.

When their relationship ended badly, she discovered she was pregnant.

The Sterling family tried to bring her home.

But Evelyn disappeared before they could find her.

For years, they searched.

Nothing.

Then, eventually, they believed she had died.

Maya’s eyes filled with tears.

“She died three years ago.”

Julian lowered his head.

“I didn’t know.”

“She never told me who we were.”

“She probably wanted you to grow up without the burden of the Sterling name.”

Maya touched the ring.

“So I’m…”

Julian looked directly at her.

“You’re Maya Sterling.”

The missing heiress.

The only surviving heir to one of the largest private fortunes on the East Coast.

And Richard had no idea.
