  • by

Ginger is a popular ingredient in cooking and traditional remedies. It contains compounds such as gingerols and is commonly used for nausea, digestive discomfort, and as a flavorful addition to food and drinks. For most healthy adults, moderate amounts of ginger are generally well tolerated.

However, ginger is not appropriate for everyone in large amounts or as a concentrated supplement. The warning that people should “never eat ginger” is too broad. The important issue is knowing when ginger may interact with a medical condition or medication.

1. If you take blood-thinning medication

Large amounts of ginger or concentrated ginger supplements may affect blood clotting. 2. If you have a bleeding disorder

Anyone with a condition that makes bleeding more likely should be cautious with concentrated ginger preparations. This is particularly important before surgery or dental procedures.

3. If you have gallstones
