1. Activate the yeast
Pour the warm milk into a bowl. Add the sugar and yeast and stir gently. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until slightly foamy.
2. Make the dough
Add the eggs and mix. Gradually add the flour and salt, stirring until a rough dough forms.
3. Add the butter
Add the softened butter little by little while kneading. Continue kneading for about 8–10 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth, soft, and slightly elastic.
4. First rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the rolls
Gently press down the dough to release excess air. Divide it into 16–20 equal pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball.
Arrange the dough balls in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between them.
6. Second rise
Cover and let the rolls rise again for 30–45 minutes, until noticeably puffy.
7. Add the egg wash
Mix the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of milk. Brush the tops of the rolls gently. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
8. Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 20–25 minutes, until beautifully golden brown.
9. Keep them soft
As soon as they come out of the oven, you can brush the tops lightly with melted butter. Cover loosely with a clean kitchen towel while they cool.
🥰 Serving Idea
Enjoy them warm with butter, honey, jam, or your favorite spread. The inside should be soft, tender, and fluffy while the outside develops a lovely golden crust.
