Step 1: Cook the sausage
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the breakfast sausage and cook for about 7–9 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Continue until browned and fully cooked.
Drain any excess grease and allow the sausage to cool slightly.
Step 2: Prepare the filling
Place the cooked sausage in a large bowl. Add the cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, garlic powder, black pepper, and Italian seasoning if using. Stir until everything is evenly combined.
Step 3: Prepare the crescent dough
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles. Arrange the triangles in a circle on the baking sheet, with the wide ends overlapping in the center and the pointed ends facing outward. The arrangement should resemble a sun.
Step 4: Add the sausage filling
Spoon the sausage and cheese mixture around the wide center portion of the dough ring. Keep the filling away from the very edge so it doesn’t spill out during baking.
Step 5: Fold the dough
Bring each pointed end of the crescent dough toward the center, over the sausage filling. Tuck the point underneath the inner edge of the ring to secure it.
Continue around the entire ring until all the filling is enclosed.
Step 6: Brush with egg wash
Brush the exposed dough lightly with the beaten egg. This gives the crescent ring that beautiful golden-brown, glossy finish.
Step 7: Bake
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20–25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and deeply golden and the cheese is melted.
Step 8: Garnish and serve
Remove from the oven and allow the ring to rest for about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley, then slice into individual portions.
Serve warm with scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, a fresh salad, or your favorite dipping sauce. A little marinara, ranch, or honey mustard on the side makes it even more irresistible.
This cheesy sausage crescent ring is perfect for Christmas morning, Thanksgiving brunch, holiday parties, potlucks, or any occasion when you want an easy recipe that looks like you spent hours in the kitchen.
