That evening, Damian arrived at my house.
He didn’t knock.
He pounded on the door.
“Chloe!”
I stood behind the locked door.
“She isn’t here.”
“I know she’s here.”
“You need to leave.”
“She is my wife.”
“She is my daughter.”
His voice became threatening.
“Margaret, don’t make this difficult.”
I called Robert.
Then I called the police.
Damian heard me.
“You’re making a huge mistake.”
“No,” I said.
“I made the mistake of believing you were a good man.”
He went silent.
Then he whispered:
“You’ll regret this.”
He left before the police arrived.
But the threat was recorded.
And this time, we had proof.
PART 7 — EVERYTHING COLLAPSES
Within weeks, Robert filed for an emergency protective order.
The court also granted Chloe temporary protection.
Then the financial investigation began.
The restaurant’s records were subpoenaed.
Investigators discovered unpaid wages.
False payroll reports.
Unreported cash transactions.
Forged employee signatures.
And tax discrepancies.
Former employees started coming forward.
One woman said Damian had threatened her after she asked for overtime pay.
Another said she had quit because she saw Chloe being forced to work while sick.
Then the restaurant’s former manager testified.
“I was told to tell anyone who asked that Chloe was a volunteer.”
Robert asked:
“Was she?”
“No.”
“How many hours did she work?”
“Almost every day.”
“Was she paid?”
The manager shook his head.
“Not once.”
The courtroom became silent.
Damian looked at Chloe.
For the first time, there was no arrogance in his expression.
Only fear.
PART 8 — THE CONTRACT DESTROYS HIM
Damian’s lawyer tried to argue that Chloe had voluntarily agreed to help her husband.
Robert placed the original contract on the table.

The judge studied everything carefully.
Then looked at Damian.
“You expected this woman to work without compensation while simultaneously controlling her finances and threatening her if she left?”
Damian didn’t answer.
The judge turned to Chloe.
“You were afraid?”
Chloe nodded.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She looked toward Damian.
“Because he kept telling me nobody would believe me.”
The judge’s expression hardened.
“I believe you.”
Chloe began crying.
Not because she was afraid.

Once the investigation became public, customers stopped coming.
